Biography
Family
Georges (Georges Adolphe) De Sloovere, born on rue des Augustins in Bruges on August 4, 1873, is the son of the public works contractor Louis De Sloovere (1847-1882) and Célestine Huybrecht (1841). He married Léona Jansseune (1894-1993) on December 3, 1921. The couple had two daughters: Odrada (1923) and Monica (1927-1937)[1].

Formation
From 1888 to 1895, Georges De Sloovere trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Bruges, under the painter Edmond Van Hove, then, from 1895 to 1901, at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Brussels. In 1897, the city of Brussels awarded him the first prize for painting.

Career
In 1899, Georges De Sloovere became known to the public by presenting his works at the sixth exhibition of the artists of Bruges. The following year, he exhibited 'My Sisters' (portrait) at the Brussels Salon of 1900 and participated in the Belgian triennial salons until 1914. Additionally, he sent his paintings to the salons of the Société nationale des beaux-arts in Paris in 1902, 1903, and 1914.

Between 1918 and 1925, he was a professor at the Bruges Academy. During the 1920s and 1930s, he exhibited his paintings in Bruges, notably as part of the group Le Pélican, and in Brussels at various galleries[5].
