Mabie Todd & Co Swan Minor SM 1/60 fountain pen from the United Kingdom, with a black ebonite body and cap and a 14K solid gold Swan nib (no. 1) in lever-fill mechanism, dating to the early 20th century and in good used condition with minor wear.
Description from the seller
A0000001770
The Mabie Todd Swan SM 1/60 fountain pen is presented in very good overall condition, especially noteworthy considering its age (a piece of British production from the late 1930s–1940s).
The body and cap in black ebonite retain a deep and uniform shine, with slight micro-surface marks characteristic of use and the passage of time, visible only upon close inspection. No cracks, deformations, or repairs are apparent, maintaining correct geometry and excellent aesthetic appearance.
The original Swan solid gold 14K (no. 1) nib is intact and well aligned, with the tip preserved and slight wear consistent with use. It exhibits a smooth elastic response (semi-flex), providing a fluid and expressive writing experience, a highly valued characteristic of Swan models from this period. The engravings on the nib remain clearly visible.
The ebonite feed shows good structural condition and proper fit, promoting a stable ink flow. The lever-loading system remains complete; the lever functions correctly (the condition of the internal sac, being a vintage pen, should be considered in accordance with its age).
The metal clip featuring the swan motif is secure, with a homogeneous superficial wear and no deformations. The engravings on the body — 'SWAN MINOR', 'MABIE TODD & CO LTD', 'MADE IN ENGLAND', and 'TRADE MARK' — remain legible and well-defined, adding historical and collectible value to the piece.
Conclusion
Overall, it is an original, honest, and well-preserved pen, ideal for both collectors of classic English fountain pens and users seeking a vintage pen with excellent writing performance and a historical character.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
