Description from the seller
I am offering a stunning original and authentic painting by Remo Brindisi (Rome 1918 - Lido di Spina 1996), depicting one of his most important subjects: 'The Opponents.' The artwork measures 100 x 50 cm, complete with a valuable frame (included as a gift) measuring 124 x 74 cm, signed at the bottom left, with an authentic signature on the back by the artist. It is an oil on canvas with very textured paint. The piece is accompanied by an authenticity certificate signed by the artist, featuring a photo of the artist with the painting (photos no. 6 and 7). Additionally, it comes with a certificate of authenticity and provenance from a well-known auction house, along with correspondence with Dr. Gimmi Stefanini, director of the official 'Remo Brindisi' archive, who certifies the authenticity of the painting. This documentation, which also includes the year and title of the work, will be sent to the buyer along with the artwork.
A work of the highest quality and notable size by one of the historic masters of 20th-century Italian art.
Remo Brindisi (Rome, April 25, 1918 – Lido di Spina, July 25, 1996) was an Italian painter. He studied in Penne (PE), at the Mario dei Fiori School of Art, in L'Aquila and Rome, then attended the School of Art in Urbino. Throughout his life, he undertook many study trips, visiting, among others, Florence, Paris, and Venice, before moving to live in Milan.
Recognized internationally to the point of becoming one of the most cited and well-known painters of Italian art of the last century, he has dedicated to him in Italy educational institutes as well as some streets.
His first solo exhibition dates back to 1940, held in Florence: the exhibition catalog was written by Eugenio Montale. Subsequently, he held solo exhibitions in Paris, Nice, Milan, Venice, Rome, Cairo, and São Paulo. However, he remained connected to his Abruzzo region, where in 1960 he was invited to the 11th edition of the Premio Avezzano - National Exhibition of Figurative Arts in Avezzano, alongside Stefano Cavallo, Gisberto Ceracchini, Vincenzo Ciardo, Eliano Fantuzzi, Carlo Levi, Giovanni Omiccioli, Michele Rosa, Joseph Franz Strachota, Francesco Trombadori, Antonio Vangelli, and others.
He was President of the Triennale di Milano and was awarded the gold medal of Public Education of the Republic for cultural merits. He participated, especially between the 1940s and 1950s, in multiple editions of the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale.
Also famous for figures, faces, and landscapes: the 'Venezie', the 'Oppositori', the 'Pastorelli', the 'Maternità' are the most recurring themes. He painted works with social and political themes, among which the cycle 'Storia del Fascismo' (1957-62) stands out. He created symbols carried in procession on Good Friday in L'Aquila.
In the art collections of the Fondazione Cariplo, there are four of his paintings: Three Profiles, Profiles, Venice, and another Venice. A large collection of his paintings is housed at the Museo Nazionale d'Abruzzo in L'Aquila. Another art collection from Brindisi is displayed at the MAMeC - Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Penne. In Lido di Spina, the Museo Remo Brindisi commemorates his work and the exchanges the master had with artists of his era.
