2. Compositional and iconographic description
The composition features a delicate floral still life arranged in a dark bowl on a neutral surface, highlighting a lush bouquet of pink, red, and white flowers. The bluish-green background, sober and velvety, acts as a chromatic counterpoint that enhances the vibrancy of the main motif.
Capdevila works with pictorial matter using rich and impasted brushwork, especially on the petals, giving the flowers an almost tactile vibration. Iconographically, the work is rooted in the symbolic tradition of floral still life, evoking ephemeral beauty, harmony, and bourgeois refinement typical of the turn of the century.
3. Style, School, and Comparative Valuation
Genís Capdevila Puig fully integrates into the Catalan school of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with a style close to post-impressionist realism and modernist decorative painting.
His treatment of the flower recalls masters like Francesc Miralles and Modest Urgell in his most intimate aspect, and connects with the European tradition of still life cultivated by Henri Fantin-Latour, which is highly valued today.
The work stands out for its compositional balance, chromatic sensitivity, and technical quality, constituting an excellent example of the Catalan floral still life of the period. It is an elegant piece, highly attractive decoratively and of solid collectible interest within the market of historical Catalan painting.
