A Japanese six-panel Byōbu folding screen depicting a lakeside landscape in sumi ink on paper with subtle gold dust, measuring 171 cm high by 370.5 cm wide and 2 cm deep, dating to the Edo-Meiji period (mid 19th century), signed and sealed, in good condition with minor aging signs and small blemishes including paper holes, stains and restorations, framed by silk borders in a lacquered wooden frame and suitable for wall mounting or as a room divider, with the original certificate of authenticity from Mastromauro Japanese Art Gallery (Milan).
Description from the seller
A Japanese six-panel folding screen painted in sumi ink on paper with subtle applications of gold dust, depicting an expansive lakeside landscape animated by small groups of figures engaged in outdoor activities.
In the background, softly outlined mountains emerge through light, fluid brushstrokes, gradually dissolving into mist.
The panels are framed by two elegant silk borders, while a lacquered wooden frame completes and protects the screen.
The screen can also be easily mounted on a wall or used as a room divider.
Byōbu (屏風), literally “wind protection screens,” are traditional Japanese folding screens originally created to divide spaces and today appreciated above all as striking wall-mounted paintings.
---The byobu is in good condition, with minor age-related wear. The paper shows some holes across the surface, as well as minor stains, small paper restorations, and slight pigment losses consistent with age and use. A small loss in the upper left area of metal fittings. Please refer to the pictures for further details.
The item will be carefully packed and shipped via DHL or FedEx, accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy.
