Description from the seller
About the work: This hand-painted ceramic tile reproduces the famous features of André Saraiva's character Mr A. Recognizable above all, it presents his big smile while winking. The name of the work as well as its technique of execution also reference the decorative Portuguese faience tiles that can be found in the streets of Lisbon. The choice of ceramic tile as a medium is linked to André Saraiva's Portuguese origins.
About the artist: Born in 1971. Lives and works in Paris. French artist and entrepreneur, André Saraiva is one of the pioneering artists of street art. Discovering graffiti in 1989, he invented his famous character Mr. A, which becomes a true visual identity and makes him famous. At a frantic pace of about 20 tags per night, nearly 150,000 Mr. A have thus been drawn on all supports since the start of his career. It is a genuine invasion of the world by this small cheerful and easygoing character with a bulbous face, often wearing a top hat and whose eyes, one round, the other marked with a cross, seem to wink at you. Perched on long straight legs, Mr. A resembles its inventor: smiling, charming and mischievous. André goes beyond mere graffiti to share his vision of the contemporary world.
This piece is representative of the artist André Saraiva's practice and allows acquiring the famous Mr A at a reasonable price.
