His work includes paintings, frescoes, collages, drawings, wood engravings, and prints. Robert Boinay attended the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris from 1949 to 1951 and studied painting in Maurice Brianchon's studio. He then studied fresco painting techniques with Pierre Henri Étienne Ducos-Delahaille (1889–1972). Boinay was a member of the Société du Salon d'Automne. In 1958, he received a foreign painting prize from the Musée National d'Art Moderne. In 1957, Boinay exhibited his works at 'Jeune Peinture.' This artists' association was founded in 1949 by Paul Rebeyrolle, Denys Chevalier, and Pierre Descargues and was called Jeune Création before 1954. Since 1950, it organized an annual art exhibition in Paris and was particularly dedicated to young artists.
Other exhibitions took place at the Salon Grands et Jeunes today and at the Salon Comparaisons. The latter was founded in 1955 by Lilas Bug and Andrée Bordeaux-Le Pecq.
