Description from the seller
Vintage 1870’s SEIKO 5 ACTUS Day-Date 21-Jewel Men's Watch 7019-7040 Fluorescent Hands/Indexes Automatic Watch
The Seiko 5 ACTUS 7019-7040 Automatic is a Japanese-made mechanical watch manufactured in the 1970s. This watch is one of Seiko's iconic models from the period of rapid economic growth and is also popular as an antique vintage. Combining practicality and design, it's a recommended item for collectors. Seiko's Unique Technology: Magic Lever System has been developed as "Magic Lever System" in 1959. This system converts the rotation of the rotor into up and down motion, efficiently winding the mainspring. Due to its minimal number of parts and excellent durability, it is used in many Seiko automatic models. The "Magic Lever System" is a unique and innovative technology at the time that dramatically improved the winding efficiency of automatic watches and it is still used in many Seiko mechanical watches today. This is one of major reasons that still attracts many antique vintage watch collectors. It was used in the Seiko 5 and the Sportsmatic,Quick Adjust Week Day, making it a reliable and highly serviceable practical watch. Its distinctive features, such as the Magic Lever automatic winding, day-date function, and quick-set date, contributed to the spread of Japanese-made watches at the time. For this reason, it continues to attract many vintage collectors today.
Historical Background: The "5 ACTUS" was introduced in 1969 and became popular as a model aimed at young people. Since 1976, the name has been changed to "ACTUS" and the logo has been revamped.
The Meaning of "5": It represents Seiko's five major functions.
1. Unbreakable mainspring (Diaflex)
2. Shock-resistant device (Dia Shock)
3. Automatic winding
4. Date and day display
5. Water resistant

For Seiko, 1-9 represents January through September, O = October, N = November, and D = December. → "N" is November. Therefore, this watch was manufactured in January 1970

■Materials:

from it: Even if it was labeled "Waterproof" at the time, it doesn't meet modern waterproof standards. Avoid using it around water.

shocks, dramatically improving the accuracy and durability of watches. It is one of Seiko's
core technologies, first introduced in Marvel in 1956 and still used in current models such
as Presage.
• Band: Stainless Steel metal band 19.5cm wrist circumference length measured by tape
■Condition: There are scratches on the case, case back, band and the Crystal but very fine scratches not visible to the naked eyes. Lots of fine scars/scratches are in fact proof of real true antique vintage, as they cannot be avoided occurring after long term usage of more than half century. During the test period N0v.29 to Dec. 8th the power reserve still shows more than 40 hours average with less than one minute time lag. So the watch is in good condition overall since quick-day-set device still does work precisely, but very careful handling, when set the time/date, is required due real vintage watch. The watch works properly but needs to be wound at your convenience daily by natural arm movement to keep more accurate time. It was functioning normally at the time of listing, so it should continue to function without any issues. Please be sure you are satisfied with the condition before bidding, so please check the photos and product description and ask any questions you may have (please note, however, that we may not be able to answer questions close to the end of the auction)
Note: As a vintage piece, the Seiko 5 7019-7040 is a worthy and charming watch — especially if you value heritage, design, and mechanical simplicity. It won’t match modern wristwatches for convenience, but it doesn’t need to: its strength lies in its history, elegance, and the spirit of mid-70s watchmaking.
■Operation and Use
• Winding: Automatic winding, so the mainspring winds with arm movement. Manual winding is not possible.
• Time Setting: Pull the crown out two notches to adjust.
• Fast-forwarding Day of the Week:
Date: Pull the crown out one notch and rotate counterclockwise
Day of the Week: Push the crown all the way in from the normal position. One firm pushed in to the case for one weekday ahead
• Fast-forwarding the date and day of the week between 9:00 PM and 2:00 AM may cause malfunctions, so it is recommended that you set the watch to around 6:00 AM before operating it.
