José María Yturralde (1942, Cuenca) is a Spanish visual artist best known for his abstract and geometric art. He studied at the art academy in Valencia and developed into an important figure within the Spanish avant-garde during the 1960s. During this period, he collaborated with the Centro de Cálculo in Madrid, where he experimented with the combination of art, mathematics, and early computer technology.
His work is often associated with Op Art and kinetic art and explores themes such as space, movement, and visual perception. Additionally, his fascination with science, astronomy, and the universe plays a significant role. Yturralde’s work has been exhibited internationally and has had a lasting influence on the development of abstract art in Spain.
