High stylistic consistency
Excellent mastery of complex composition.
Possible attribution to Ludovico Carracci or to a close collaborator.
Description of the work
The painting depicts the Adoration of the Child with the Virgin, Saint Joseph, and the shepherds, set within a classical architectural context dominated by a central column. The Virgin, seated at the center of the composition, supports the sleeping Child, while the shepherds and Saint Joseph participate in the scene with measured and composed gestures. A lamb in the foreground emphasizes the Christological symbolic meaning. The compositional layout is balanced and pyramidal.
Stylistic analysis and attribution
The work presents characteristics attributable to Emilian figurative culture from the late 16th to the early 17th century. The composure of the figures, the sweetness of the faces, and the diffused light recall the language of the Carracci, particularly Ludovico Carracci. Some execution simplifications suggest an attribution to the Carracci circle or workshop, active in Bologna between 1590 and 1605.
Condition report: opera in good conservation condition with signs of age and previous restorations - re-inlaid.
Data on the importance of the work will be sent exclusively with secure packaging and insured shipping based on the estimated value.
