This is a high-quality Showa period hand-printed woodblock reproduction set of Utagawa Hiroshige’s celebrated series “The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido,” originally issued around 1833–1834. Hiroshige (1797–1858) captured the landscapes, weather, and daily life along the major travel route between Edo (Tokyo) and Kyoto. Among the many editions, the Hoeidō version is considered the most famous and desirable, consisting of 55 designs (53 post stations plus the starting point Nihonbashi and the ending point Kyoto).
This reproduction set was published by Yuyūdō, known for its high-quality traditional woodblock print productions. All 55 prints are presented loose (not glued to mounts), each placed inside numbered envelopes—most envelopes contain two prints, while the final envelope contains three.
The set comes housed in a traditional blue cloth-covered folding portfolio (chitsu) with ties, providing excellent storage and presentation. A Japanese-language commentary booklet is also included.
Most prints are in very good condition. A few prints show minor foxing, and a few have small smudges in the margins. The commentary booklet has a slightly folded corner and some lines marked with a highlighter. The cloth portfolio shows mild discoloration. Overall, the set is in good to very good used condition. Please refer to the photos for details.
