Mabie, Todd & Co. The Swan Pen, a mid-20th century US-made fountain pen with resin/polyester body plated in gold, 136 mm long and 8.6 mm in diameter, serial number R0303253, in good used condition and in working order with original cap and safety chain.
Description from the seller
A0000001764
The pen is in its original condition, maintaining all its components authentic without replacements or modern additions, which significantly enhances its value as a collectible piece.
The body of Ebonita Negra shows natural aging consistent with its age, with a slight patina and superficial marks typical of use and the passage of time. No structural cracks, breaks, or deformations are observed, maintaining a straight and solid shape.
The golden metallic details—rings, finials, and cap—show uniform wear of the gold, especially in the areas of greatest contact, which is common in pens from this era. The patina is stable and authentic, with no signs of aggressive polishing, preserving the historical character of the piece.
The gold nib is presented intact, with no cracks or breaks, and correctly aligned tines. Darkening and patina characteristic of age are visible, without affecting its structural integrity. The tip maintains its original shape, making it ideal for future adjustments if intended for writing use.
The security chain cap is particularly noteworthy: the original chain is fully preserved, fits well, and shows no visible deformations. The locking system functions correctly, fitting securely.
The body engravings remain visible and legible, including the historical patent inscriptions, which confirms their authenticity and early dating.
Overall, it is an antique pen in very good condition for its age, with honest and consistent wear, ideal for both advanced collection and classic writing after professional review.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for proper preservation.
