"Basquiat" is a portrait of the painter Jean-Michel Basquiat (New York 1960-1988), a constant reference in many of my graphic and pictorial works. The portrait is based on the famous photograph taken of Basquiat holding the book "The Subterraneans" by Jack Kerouac. Over his name, the famous crown appears, which he himself placed on his works to highlight concepts he believed deserved to be emphasized and thus crowned.
My works address different themes, almost always starting from personal experiences, such as personal relationships, adapting to new places to live, mythomania, the physical and material condition of living beings, or the linguistic differences between cultures. They always begin with figurative reference images but without aiming for realism, with the outline line being a fundamental part of the process. These reference images are both my own and others', collected over a long documentation process. They are narrative works, where ideas and concepts are more important than the formal way they are expressed. My aesthetic and conceptual references include artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Julian Schnabel, and David Salle.
