"1996/2009" is about personal experiences regarding the need to escape from a previous life marked by a period between these two dates. The figure on the left, located below the year 1996, lacks a smile and appears disheartened; while the one on the right smiles and is positioned below the year 2009, which marks the beginning of a new, more hopeful life stage. Between the two figures, words appear that define ideas about staying in your place of origin and not changing anything, or leaving to seek beyond the familiar and starting a new life.
My works address different themes, almost always starting from personal experiences, such as personal relationships, adapting to new places to live, mythomania, the physical and material condition of living beings, or the linguistic differences between cultures. They always begin with figurative reference images but without aiming for realism, with the outline line being a fundamental part of the process. These reference images are both my own and others', collected over a long documentation process. They are narrative works, where ideas and concepts are more important than the formal way they are expressed. My aesthetic and conceptual references include artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Julian Schnabel, and David Salle.
