Japanese Kutani ceramic vase titled Yuuriginsai Silver Leaf Vase with Handles by Seiho, 24.5 cm high, 11.5 cm wide and deep, with silver leaf underglaze in the Yuuriginsai technique and mimitsuki handles, in good unused condition with its original tomobako wooden box.
Description from the seller
Item Description
This elegant Kutani ware vase by Seiho showcases the refined technique of Yuuriginsai (silver leaf underglaze). The piece features silver foil applied to the bisque-fired body, which is then covered with transparent glaze, creating a soft, lustrous finish that changes expression with light. The vase is distinguished by its handles (mimitsuki), adding both aesthetic appeal and functional elegance.
Yuuriginsai is a sophisticated Kutani technique where silver foil patterns are adhered to the ceramic body and covered with transparent or colored glazes before firing. Unlike exposed silver that oxidizes, the glaze-protected silver maintains its beautiful sheen indefinitely. This technique produces a gentle, refined aesthetic with depth and subtle brilliance characteristic of contemporary Kutani craftsmanship.
The vase comes in its original wooden box (tomobako), indicating its authenticity and quality. The piece remains in unused condition, though stored privately, with a wedding anniversary inscription on the inner lid of the box.
