Montblanc fountain pen, model Montblanc 2, with a celluloid body and 14K gold (585) solid gold cap, made in Germany in the first half of the 20th century, 113.6 mm long and 10.7 mm in diameter, featuring a retractable 14K gold nib and an eyedropper filling system, in good used condition with minor signs of wear.
Description from the seller
The pen is presented in very good condition, maintaining an elegant, solid presence that is consistent with a high-end Montblanc fountain pen of its era.
The body and cap in solid gold 585 (14 karats) retain a warm, uniform shine, with the ornamental engraving clearly defined and deep. No dents, deformations, or material losses are visible. Only fine superficial micro-scratches and slight signs of use are observed, visible under close inspection, which are completely normal for a piece of this age and material, and do not negatively impact the aesthetic or structural integrity.
The contrast punches, including the 585 mark, are clearly visible and legible, confirming the authenticity of the gold and reinforcing the piece's original period character.
The cap fits properly, with a firm and secure closure. The clip, consistent with Montblanc's early design, remains straight, well aligned, and fully functional, with a smooth, even patina matching the overall condition.
The Montblanc nib made of 14C solid gold, retractable type, is in excellent structural condition, with no cracks, fissures, or repairs. The retracting mechanism functions correctly, allowing the nib to extend and retract smoothly and precisely. The tip remains intact, with normal, balanced wear from use, providing smooth and controlled writing. The engravings on the nib remain sharp and well-defined.
The eyedropper filling system is intact and structurally sound. No visible cracks or signs of repairs are observed on the body. As is common with antique fountain pens using this system, a preventive inspection or maintenance is recommended before continued use, especially to ensure optimal sealing.
The early Montblanc star dome, made of clear resin, is intact, with no missing parts or breaks, showing only gentle wear consistent with the age of the piece.
Overall, this is a high-end Montblanc Nº 4, made of solid gold 585, with a retractable nib and a dropper filling system, very well preserved and clearly above average, ideal both for a demanding collection and for careful use by an advanced enthusiast.
It will be sent in a courtesy box for its proper preservation.
