Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Issey Miyaké: Official vest “L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped”, a limited edition hand-signed work in mixed technique, 68 × 62 cm, France, sold with frame, from 2020, in excellent condition.
Description from the seller
CHRISTO & JEANNE CLAUDE.
Christo Javacheff (1935-2020) & Jeanne-Claude Denat de Guillebon (1935-2009).
Original official vest (or "Gilet de Mediatrice") for the collaborators of the Paris installation of "L'ARC DE TRIOMPHE, WRAPPED".
Original design by the Japanese ISSEY MIYAKÉ (Hiroshima, 1938 - Tokyo, 2022): blue vest with the name "Christo and Jeanne Claude" printed on the front and "L'Arc de Triomphe" on the back (with the pockets visible) with an "arch" effect in metallic silver and with a special shine that visitors who attended the installation will remember perfectly. We do not know the type of printing, we believe that at least part of it is screen printed.
Size: 68 x 62 cm.
We have mounted the vest in a standard 70 x 50 cm frame, with a interior depth of 2,5 cm, choosing the front for its design. Special high-quality glass-polystyrene plate (0.35 cm thick).
An official Éditions du Patrimoine artcard (París, 2018-2021) of one of the project's preparatory drawings has been incorporated into the montage. The card has been modified with red thread simulating the red rope in the installation. A sample of the fabric used has also been included. Assembly CARRIED OUT by professors and graduates from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Madrid.
The assembly does not affect the integrity of the suit at all and it is possible to separate all its components without problem.
A photograph of the other side of the vest is included, without the final assembly of the work.
ISSEY MIYAKÉ studied graphic design at Tama Art University in Tokyo, graduating in 1964. After graduating, he worked in Paris and New York. Returning to Tokyo in 1970, he founded Miyake Design Studio, a high-end producer of women's fashion and accessories.
