Description from the seller

The Electric Match – Rare lot of early 20th-century electric lighters, with a wooden case model and NOS spare parts.

Description
Rare and fascinating collection of vintage wall electric lighters, dating back to the early decades of the twentieth century, a crucial period when electricity and gas coexisted in domestic, industrial, and technical systems.
The lot is distinguished by the presence of a particularly early and refined igniter, equipped with an insulating wooden case, with a piston door made of brass and copper, a solution typical of the very first electrical applications, when wood was still used as a structural insulating material before the widespread adoption of bakelite.

Composition of the lot
Wall-mounted electric igniter with a wooden case, brass and copper punch holder, and an insulating wooden handle.
1 electric wall switch with a metal box missing the piston.
Incomplete ignition device for spare parts.
The two specimens with metal cases are attributable to JALUME production.
Original vintage spare parts (NOS), see photos 22-23-24-25.
The presence of original unused spare parts is a rare element of great collectible interest.

Function
Wall igniters connected to the electrical network of the time, designed to generate an electric spark for lighting: - gas lamps - stoves - cookers - fixed domestic and technical systems.
They are the direct precursors of modern piezoelectric igniters.

Constructive features
Insulating wooden case (first model)
Metal and brass cases (subsequent models)
Brass and copper bolt anchor
Internal insulation with black insulating paint.
Insulating materials in vulcanized fiber / primitive bakelite.
Cutting screws and components entirely from the same period.
Modular system with separate switch.
Period around 1900–1925

The model with a wooden case is from the earliest phase of the lot (early century), while the others represent a slightly later evolution.
Historical context
These lighters were installed in middle-class homes, laboratories, public buildings, and technical facilities, also in industrial and nautical fields.
They represent a fascinating example of primitive electrical engineering, when safety, reparability, and insulating materials relied on solutions that are now obsolete.

Conditions
Good general condition, considering its age.
Original patina present
Brand new vintage spare parts never used
To be restored

Collectible and study objects should not be connected to the modern electrical network.
Final considerations
Authentic, rare Lotto with a strong historical impact, ideal for:
collectors of technical-industrial objects
Museums of technology
Restoration of historic environments
enthusiasts of the history of electricity and gas
