Original Japanese suiseki viewing stone with a chrysanthemum‑like crystalline pattern in a dark iron‑rich matrix, presented with a hand‑carved wooden daiza and sold with the stand; stone weight approximately 1,240 g and height about 11 cm, dating from the late 20th century (circa 1980s–1990s) and in fair condition.
Description from the seller
This is an authentic Japanese suiseki (viewing stone), presented with a hand-carved wooden daiza (display base), created to harmonize naturally with the stone’s unique form.
The stone features a distinctive chrysanthemum-like crystalline pattern emerging from a dark, iron-rich matrix. This radial mineral formation, clearly visible from multiple angles, evokes traditional Japanese aesthetics where natural patterns are appreciated as symbolic landscapes and abstract beauty rather than literal representation.
The surface has been carefully polished to enhance its natural textures while preserving its organic character. The contrast between the deep charcoal-green body and the warm ochre-to-gold mineral inclusions creates a powerful visual balance, highly valued among suiseki collectors.
The stone is displayed in a custom-fitted wooden daiza, showing natural aging and patina, indicating long-term use or traditional craftsmanship rather than modern mass production.
From the images:
Weight (stone only): approx. 1,240 g
Height: approx. 11 cm (based on measuring scale shown)
Condition is excellent, with no visible cracks or repairs
Natural inclusions, color variations, and surface irregularities are inherent characteristics of genuine suiseki
Based on its style, presentation, and finish, this piece is estimated to have been prepared in the late 20th century (circa 1980s–1990s).
This is a one-of-a-kind natural object, suitable for:
Traditional Japanese alcove (tokonoma) display
Zen-inspired interior design
Serious suiseki or Asian art collections
