Description from the seller
This work is an original colour silkscreen by Josef Albers (1888–1976), titled Blue Reminding, executed in 1966. A master of colour theory and geometric abstraction, Albers became internationally recognised through his iconic Homage to the Square series. In this piece, concentric squares in subtly shifting shades of blue and green demonstrate Albers’ meticulous exploration of chromatic interaction and spatial perception.
The print was published by Ives-Sillman, Inc., New Haven—one of Albers’ key collaborators—on behalf of the Aldegrever Gesellschaft in Münster. The work is printed on fine, thin card and shows Albers' precision in colour application and form. It is hand-signed and dated in pencil by the artist in the lower left, with the title and edition number 55/200, and additionally bears Albers' distinctive monogram and the year '66 in the lower right.
Josef Albers was a pivotal figure in modern art and design, having taught at the Bauhaus in Germany and later at Black Mountain College and Yale University in the United States. His legacy continues to influence generations of artists and designers.
This print is an excellent example of Albers’ legacy in 20th-century abstraction, combining rigorous theory with poetic visual impact.
Condition:
Colours are rich and well-preserved, with no fading.
The impression is strong and clean.
A small pinpoint-like white dot and a fine surface mark are visible in the green area (right section), likely from handling or production. These are only noticeable upon close inspection or angled light.
