Ikebana vase in bamboo with intricate wickerwork and carved wooden side handles, origin Japan, late Showa period (1970s–1980s), dimensions 33 cm high by 16 cm wide by 16 cm deep, weight 635 g, in good condition with minor signs of aging.
Description from the seller
This is an impressive Japanese bamboo flower basket showcasing refined craftsmanship and a strong sculptural presence.
The basket features a well-balanced, elegant form, with the body decorated in extremely fine geometric openwork weaving. The pierced structure allows light to pass through beautifully, creating delicate shadows and adding depth and atmosphere to any interior space.
A particularly striking feature is the pair of carved wooden decorative handles on each side. These sculptural elements elevate the piece beyond a functional flower basket, reflecting the high level of artistry and design typical of carefully handcrafted Japanese bamboo works from the late Showa period.
While suitable for ikebana, this piece is equally compelling when displayed without flowers, functioning as a standalone art object. It harmonizes effortlessly with both traditional Japanese interiors and modern or minimalist spaces, making it highly appealing to international collectors of Japanese bamboo art.
The bamboo shows a natural and attractive patina consistent with age. Overall condition is good, with only minor signs of use appropriate for a vintage handmade item.
