Ernst Fuchs (1930 – 2015) was an Austrian painter, sculptor, and architect, one of the founders of the Wiener Schule des phantastischen Realismus. His work combines classical painting with surrealism and symbolism, characterized by mystical subjects and bizarre images.
His style, which he himself called 'fantastic realism,' is a mixture of classical techniques with modern currents and surrealism. His works are characterized by humor, a dialogue with old masters, and a challenge to society. His painting and graphics feature floral rhythms, shimmering 'fabulous' colors, and exotic motifs from ancient mythologies. In addition to painting, Fuchs worked as a graphic artist, sculptor, architect, set designer, and even as a composer and poet.
