The artist Joop Smits was born in the Netherlands, in the city of Eindhoven, and in 1961, he attended the art academy in his hometown. From a young age, drawing and painting were his great passions. In 1992, he built a studio in Ireland, and in 2002, another in Mallorca, where he has lived permanently since 2008.
The artist worked seven days a week, almost seeming to be fused with his paintings. The many lonely hours spent passionately working appear to be reflected in the calm, remote, unvisited, and pristine panoramic landscapes.
