Japanese Overglaze Floral Square Dishes – Set of 5 with Wooden Box

This set consists of five Japanese square dishes decorated with overglaze floral motifs.
Each dish has softly rounded corners and a gentle rectangular form.
Different floral designs—such as bamboo, chrysanthemum, plum blossom, and peony—are individually painted on each piece, creating an elegant composition that makes effective use of negative space.

The warm, yellow-toned base glaze is complemented by overglaze decoration in green, white, and blue, resulting in a refined yet lively appearance.
The style combines decorative beauty with practical use and reflects the characteristic aesthetic of Japanese ceramics from the Showa period.

The fine crackle-like patterns visible on the surface are crazing (kan’nyū) caused by the natural properties of the glaze.
These are not cracks or damage, but an intentional and valued part of the ceramic design created during the firing process, adding depth and character to the pieces.

Chrysanthemum is a traditional auspicious motif in Japan, symbolizing longevity and purity.
3. Peony Motif
A softly rendered white peony with a gentle and elegant appearance.
The peony is traditionally associated with prosperity and refinement.
4. Plum Blossom Motif
White plum blossoms depicted together with branching lines.
Plum blossoms, which bloom in late winter, symbolize endurance and purity.
5. Chrysanthemum Motif (Small Blossoms with Branch)
A calmer composition showing smaller chrysanthemum flowers with leaves and branches.
The use of open space creates a balanced and harmonious impression within the set.

Red marks (likely kiln or workshop marks) can be seen on the foot rims of the dishes.
As a matching set of consistent form and style, these dishes are suitable not only for tea-ceremony cuisine such as mukōzuke or confectionery plates, but also for decorative or collection purposes.

The set comes with its original wooden box bearing an ink inscription, indicating that it has been carefully preserved.
