De Zaanse Schans is an oil painting by Gerardus Johannes Delfgaauw from the Netherlands, sold with a frame.
Description from the seller
This calming oil painting offers a warm view of the Zaanse Schans. The interplay of water and air is depicted with great subtlety; the artist has captured the nuances in color and light with a refined touch.
Gerardus Johannes Delfgaauw (1882-1947) grew up in the water-rich Westland, which is clearly reflected in his work. The polder landscape of his birthplace forms a recurring theme within his oeuvre. Additionally, he painted village and cityscapes, winter scenes, and depictions of the Rotterdam port.
Delfgaauw was largely self-taught and worked in an impressionist-naturalist style. His ability to convincingly capture the sunlight and its shimmering reflection on the water is particularly appreciated.
Dimensions: 50 × 90 cm
Provenance: Dutch private collection
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
