Description from the seller
Author
Deanna Borchi (1944) is an Italian painter. Born in the province of Florence, she has built a nationally and internationally recognized career since the 1970s, participating in significant exhibitions. Notable moments in her career include her participation in the group show 'Trenta maledetti Toscani' at the Accademia di Brera in Milan, presented by Piero Bargellini, and winning the first prize for informal art in Lucca in 1976. Her consistent presence in galleries and cultural institutions has established her as one of the interesting voices in contemporary Italian figurative art.
Borchi's stylistic figure is characterized by an instinctive and vibrant painting that moves in a delicate balance between figurativism and abstraction. Her preferred subjects are landscapes, interpreted through a synthetic brushstroke and a luministic sensitivity that transfigures the real data into a poetic and symbolic dimension. Critics like Tommaso Paloscia have highlighted her ability to evoke 'the poetry of infinity,' using an immediate chromatic language that imbues nature with profound suggestions. Her work, often created on supports such as faesite or canvasboard, demonstrates a continuous exploration of light and matter, aimed at capturing the essence of the atmosphere rather than mere didactic description.
Description
"Hilly Landscape", oil on panel, 83*65cm with frame, 68*50cm for the panel alone, signature in the central band, datable to the 1970s of the 20th century.
The composition is structured along a diagonal that guides the eye down the slope of the hill, at the top of which stands a solitary rural architecture, almost absorbed into the surrounding greenery. In the foreground, a row of trees with slender trunks and brown canopies acts as a scenic backdrop, creating a vertical rhythm that adds depth and stability to the entire scene. The overall atmosphere is filled with a suspended quietness, where the landscape seems captured in a moment of diffused light that softens its contours.
From a technical perspective, the oil on panel highlights the instinctive and vibrant brushwork typical of Borchi, who avoids didactic detail in favor of an atmospheric rendering close to informal sensibility. The chromatic play develops across a range of warm, earthy tones — terre d’ombre, ochre, and deep greens — skillfully contrasted by a milky, veiled sky occupying the upper part of the support. This luministic exploration, which tends to synthesize form through color, reflects the artist's desire to capture the essence of nature rather than its mere appearance, maintaining that delicate balance between figuration and abstraction that characterizes his entire body of work. The painting is well-balanced in composition and pleasing in aesthetic impact.
Condition Report
Excellent overall condition, the work is intact throughout, with vivid, clearly legible colors and brushstrokes. The frame is included free of charge.
