Description from the seller
Corneille (1922–2010) – The Force of Destiny
Screen print, hand-signed and numbered
This expressive screen print by Corneille, co-founder of the international COBRA movement, is a powerful example of his later figurative work. In a vivid and contrasting color palette, Corneille depicts a mythical, almost demonic figure embracing a female form. The composition breathes both tenderness and threat, poetically illustrating the theme of inevitable fate — la forza del destino.
The raw contour lines, playful distortions, and intense colors are characteristic of Corneille's free, instinctive visual language. His work is deeply rooted in the Cobra ideal of spontaneous creation, where emotion and imagination are more important than academic perfection. The sunset in the background enhances the drama and gives the work an almost ritualistic, timeless atmosphere.
Corneille gained international recognition, and his work is part of the collections of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and the Centre Pompidou in Paris. This silkscreen print is a collectible artwork that is both conceptually and visually strong, and it makes a valuable addition for enthusiasts of Cobra art and post-war modernism.
Condition: very good
Technique: screen printing on paper.
Signature: hand-signed by the artist
Origin: European collection
