In the sixties, Rik van Bentum was inspired by the mundane when painting, a characteristic of the modern cityscape. Through his stay in America, he was introduced to pop art. This is reflected in his artworks through the use of advertising symbols. In his collage paintings from 1963, the brands 'Martini' and 'Rivella' are incorporated. Furthermore, numbers and letters are important visual elements in Rik van Bentum's work.
