1 x Bottle of 1999 Château Haut-Brion (Red) 1er Grand Cru Classé - Pessac-Leognan, France.
Perfect bottle of 1999 Haut Brion in a challenging vintage due to climatic changes this one has turned to be a really nice and balanced HB. Tasted a few times over the past years it is starting now to show the cellar work and careful selection of grapes. Textbook HB ready to drink but has still plenty of life left to evolve.
From our private stock collection - Kept in our controlled temperature cellar in pristine conditions.
About Château Haut-Brion 1999
---------------------------------
Lovely color, a handsome dark red, both lively and young. The nose gives a strong impression of softness and harmony. All the aromatic elements are perfectly proportioned: the tinge of woody vanilla, the sweetness of lightly cooked caramel, the slight aggressiveness of liquorish, red and black berries, mulberry, and cherry all meld into a perfect balance discovered in the mouth rendering a finish both long and sweet that gives this wine an exceptional charm
Alcohol: 13% vol. New Barrels: 69% Bottled: August 2001
The blend is Merlot: 60 % - Cabernet Sauvignon: 28% - Cabernet Franc: 12 %
Tasting Notes

93 Points Robert Parker (2002)
Deep plum, currant, and mineral notes emerge from the concentrated, beautifully balanced, pure 1999 Haut Brion. It seems to be cut from the same mold as years such as 1979 and 1985. There is a hint of graphite in the abundant fruit. The wine is medium to full-bodied, nuanced, subtle, deep, and provocatively elegant. It is made in a style that only Haut Brion appears capable of achieving. The finish is extremely long, the tannins sweet, and the overall impression one of delicacy interwoven with power and ripeness.
94 Points Chris Kissack (2019)
After the superb 1998 vintage, much better in Pessac-Léognan than it was up on the Medoc, and followed by the fine 2000 vintage, 1999 struggled to find its place in the market. It was an early harvest (in the case of Haut-Brion, running from September 8th to the 24th), and tasted at twenty years of age it shows well. Poured from double magnum, this possesses a charming and smoky poise, with a youthful touch of black bean and liquorice, although there is a little twist of oyster shell coming in here too. It feels very typical of 1999 on the palate though, showing a charming, delicate and gently polished style, fresh, but with a peppery energy through the tobacco-laced middle. Indeed, as it the confident middle unfurls on the palate this seems quite striking, certain substantial, and correspondingly it has a remarkably long finish. Very well done indeed.
92 Points Jeb Dunnuck (2023)
Based on 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, the 1999 Château Haut-Brion offers classic Haut-Brion scorched earth and smokiness as well as loads of ripe currant and darker fruits, leafy herbs, truffle, and chocolaty nuances. It's more broad and expansive than the La Mission Haut-Brion, but it also lacks a touch of the purity and precision of that wine. This brooding, layered, expressively textured Haut-Brion is drinking at point today and I certainly don't see if getting any better, but I have no doubt it will evolve for another decade or more if well stored.
