Description from the seller
Beautiful exclusive painting by Gasnier. The details in the paint are incredible, and the way he uses the canvas is something special. The painting is beautifully framed.
The creation of a world. 'Searching for life in matter,' JEAN-LOUP GASNIER emphasizes the essence of a creative quest and part of an unrelenting search.
JEAN-LOUP GASNIER was born in Martigues on April 22, 1952, and is a painter. A true choice, certainly, but also the result of an original path. Essentially, JEAN-LOUP GASNIER initially felt attracted to sculpture. From a very young age, he worked with the most difficult materials, especially stone. An intuitive mastery of the material that quickly made him famous. At sixteen, he had his first exhibition. By the age of twenty, JEANLOUP GASNIER, forced to stop sculpting due to lack of money, worked in decorative arts and designed contemporary furniture.
But the desire to return to visual expression will be stronger. In 1984, JEAN-LOUP GASNIER rediscovered visual creation. This was his encounter with painting.
Made for practical reasons. For painting, as for sculpture, no resources are needed—such as a studio, materials, and so on—that I was not yet able to afford...
Thanks to his meeting with Alain Deagnes in 1987 and the support he received, Jean-Loup Gasnier can finally dedicate himself fully to his art in a favorable environment. An exhibition in Geneva in June 1989 is the culmination of his perseverance. I experience painting as a true asceticism,
Abstract, figurative,... JEAN-LOUP GASNIER does not see the need for absolute references, so no school, but always employs the same intuitive approach. Perhaps a sensitivity to symbolism? Certain works from his somber period evoke echoes of Gustave Moreau. But always on large canvases: 'I feel the need to enter the space, to play with it...'
Dimensions of work with frame: 127 x 92 cm
Dimensions of work without: 116 x 81 cm
Viewing is, of course, possible. Additionally, we have our own in-house framing workshop, which is celebrating its 85th anniversary. Furthermore, we collaborate with restorers from the professional organization: 'Restauratoren Nederland'. If you wish to make use of this service, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
