Scholten, J. Scholten, Jan Scholten was born on January 6, 1948, in Apeldoorn. After living and working in Belgium for a long time, he decided to settle finally in the Veluwe, where he is surrounded by a variety of landscapes that naturally fascinate him. He taught himself oil painting. He also listened carefully to criticism and advice from various artists, which brought him closer to his ultimate goal. He has become a naturalistic fine painter of landscapes. The remarkable aspect of his work is that it exudes great precision, while the paintings are not executed as such nor painted beyond his skill. According to the artist, overworking a painting can negatively affect the work. Jan Scholten is a professional artist and also occasionally works as a sculptor. However, his preference is for painting, in which he can depict landscapes with such extreme precision that, from a certain distance, one feels as if they are present in the landscape. He faithfully reproduces landscapes, but he also takes the liberty to make small compositional adjustments so that no element becomes distracting in the painting. Jan Scholten takes photographs of nature and makes many quick sketches, which are later combined into what he considers the most suitable landscape. He is not very fond of publicity and prefers to leave that to various gallery owners who represent his work. Jan is a man of few words and prefers to focus on painting. This allows me to express myself and let others enjoy my perspective on the contemporary, tranquil Dutch landscape. Jan Scholten’s characteristic Dutch skies are recognizable and have become a consistent feature in his paintings.
