Biography of Bruno Degli Innocenti
Marmirolo, (Mantova), March 24, 1905 - Brescia, November 1, 1967. He initially held various jobs, even selling vegetables in the square, and later worked as an office clerk. Until his last days, he played in the stock market. When he turned to painting, he attended Emilio Rizzi's school, but he was mostly self-taught. He began his artistic career in 1938, producing high-level paintings, especially figurative ones.
Among the most interesting and discussed painters from 1938 to 1967, he depicted mainly characters from the Carmine neighborhood in about forty paintings, whom he loved to call 'pimpinele'. After years of alternating success, from 1950 he experienced a fortunate period, during which he gained recognition in numerous exhibitions and became known in Italy as well. A. Morucci wrote that his work was 'sometimes a bit cold in the mixture — of grays, greens, etc., generally rather muted, other times full of emotion, especially when the yellow and red tones in the chromatic fabric express a very interesting vital charge.' In the last years of his life, he mainly dedicated himself to landscapes, painting the canals of Missorbo, the lagoon of Chioggia ('Borin', Cà del Bepi', etc.), the Brescia lakes, and especially Sebino ('Morning on the lake', 'Among the olive trees', 'End of autumn', 'September at Montisola', etc.), as well as other Brescia locations ('Snow at Costalunga', 'the Ronchi', 'Valtenesi', etc.). He achieved significant success with a solo exhibition at AAB in 1966 and another posthumous one at the Piccola Galleria.
