Description from the seller

Jeanne Bieruma Oosting "Winter in the Park" oil on canvas.

Size: 50 x 70 cm with frame 64 x 84 cm.

I spent my youth fighting — preferably on two fronts at once — with the parental home and with the outbreak of painter's fury,

Jeanne Bieruma Oosting was born in Leeuwarden as a member of a wealthy patrician family. Her mother is the daughter of Rijn Harixma thoe Slooten, who resides on the Frisian estate Lauswolt. When she was nine years old, the family moved to the country estate De Cloese near Lochem, where her passion for painting was awakened. She was taught by Paul Bodifee, Frits Grabijn, Samuel Jessurum de Mesquita, and Albert Roelofs, and then attended The Hague Academy. In 1929, Jeanne left for Paris for eleven years, where she trained in graphic techniques with André Lhote and Stanley William Hayter. She worked hard and long hours. 'Fortunately, I had health as strong as a Ford car,' she says in 'Jeanne Bieruma Oosting, an overview' from 1988.
