Phi aligns himself with abstract expressionism through his abstract works (Mark Rothko, Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman), which allows him to focus entirely on the pictorial problems of painting without having to worry about figurative elements. Additionally, the way a work is created represents a radical break with traditional painting.
Their works are executed when a long-considered inspiration is developed into a quick application of the primary colors (action painting). Afterwards, many interventions follow, where the medium (acrylic, oil paint, etc.) is added, overpainted, or scraped away.
Every work consists of multiple layers, whether or not transparent.
Phi often works with themes or color identities. This results in series with homogeneous color tones. Many of his works feature vertical linearity with a division of the page. The resulting vibrancy lends itself to calling his works 'Phibrations'.
The works consist of series or of two or more surfaces.
