DESCRIPTION
We are a family-run port and Douro wine producer based in Vila Nova da Gaia and the Douro Valley. We were born of passion and pluck; an unlikely child of ancient tradition and youthful vision.
Johnny Graham founded Churchill's in 1981, when he was just 29 years old, to bring a personal, drier style and a fresh vibe to the traditional world of port. Today we produce a world-class roster of vintage, ruby and wood aged ports, in addition to Douro terroir wines that capture the spirit of the region and our beloved vineyard Quinta da Gricha.
Johnny still makes the wine and runs the company today, with help from the next generation of his family. We are now the last remaining independent British port house, and we plan to keep it that way.
We believe in wines that are personal and without pretense; jobs that work with nature; and moments that bring people closer to what brings them joy.
Live well, drink well, do good. Welcome to Churchill's.

WINEMAKER: John Graham.

AWARDS/RECOMMENDATIONS
19 Points, Vinho Grandes Escolhas
Gold Medal, International Wine Challenge
17.5 Points, Vinum Magazine
17 Points, Jancis Robinson
90 Points, CellarTracker

WINE VARIETIES: Field blend including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca and Tinto Cão.

VINIFICATION
All our ports are made in “lagares” or traditional granite treading tanks. This is our preferred choice of vinification for Port. Although more costly, we believe it is still the most effective maceration process for making top quality Vintage Port. We have treading teams working throughout the day and up to 10pm each evening. During the first six months, the young Ports will spend the winter months in seasoned oak vats in the Douro before being transported to our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia. Here they will continue to age for a further 18 months in large seasoned oak vats or stainless steel tanks until being bottled.

TASTING NOTES
"Churchill's 1997 was the ugly duckling that suddenly matured into a beautiful swan."
A Vintage Port in the classic style; not so matured as the 1994 but with a concentration of fresher “greener” fruit. It has what we call in the trade a “steel girder”; i.e. a good tannin structure which binds and balances the fruit and ensures good ageing potential.

SERVING
Excellent dessert wine to enjoy alone or with chocolate desserts or blue cheeses. Stand the bottle upright for a few hours before decanting. Best decanted at least two hours before service. Serve at room temperature (16º - 18ºC).

PLEASE NOTE: This is a recurring auction. The seal number(s) you see on the photos might differ from the one(s) on your bottle(s).
