Description from the seller

This wooden Noh mask of 弱法師(よろぼし / Yoroboshi) gives a face to the blind youth of the play Yoroboshi: a boy cast out by his family who learns to “see” more than the sighted. The closed eyes, slightly sunken brow and soft mouth hold the tension between injury and inward calm.

In Noh tradition, Yoroboshi is a single-role mask for a blind beggar youth or novice monk. The smooth cheeks, fine hairline and absence of metal in the eyes keep the expression understated, letting light and viewing angle suggest the shift from lost child to someone absorbed in silent recitation.

Type: Noh theatre mask (human male, single-role type)
Character: 弱法師(よろぼし / Yoroboshi) – blind youth / novice monk
Maker: Unknown but signed 正
Material: Wood
Dimensions: approx. 20 × 14 × 7 cm
Weight: approx. 135 g
Accessories: mask bag

On the wall or in a study, the mask reads as quiet and introspective rather than dramatic: shadows under the brows deepen with simple overhead light, and the closed eyes invite slow, attentive looking. It suits a setting where Japanese theatre, Buddhism, or contemplative objects are part of daily surroundings.

Securely packaged and shipment is always insured for safe delivery.
