Okimono of the deity Daikokuten in brown-patinated bronze by Eizan (Koshii Eizan), from the Taishô to Early Shôwa period in Japan; dimensions 51 cm high, 26 cm wide, 13 cm deep, weight 9.6 kg, in excellent condition with a two-character name seal on the back of the bag.
Description from the seller
A fine brown-patinated bronze okimono 置物 sculpted in the form of the deity Daikokuten 大黒天, one of Japan’s revered ‘Seven Lucky Gods’ 七福神 (Shichifukujin).
Rendered in a dynamic pose standing atop a bale of rice and his cloth treasure bag 布袋 (nunobukuro), he holds his magic mallet 打ち出の小槌 (uchide nokozuchi) aloft in his right hand, while presenting an inscribed coin in his left. Two small treasure jewels are placed atop the bag.
Two-character name seal at the back side the bag: 'Eizan' 栄山. Made by the Takaoka casting artist Koshii Eizan 越井栄山,a casting master from Takaoka, Toyama Prefecture. Active during the Taishô period and early Shôwa period, around the 1920-40s.
