Various Manufactures - Thimble (8) - Cherubs-Antique & Vintage

QUALITY SILVER THIMBLES - THREE WITH CHERUB/ANGEL DESIGNS This unique collection of silver thimbles was produced in days-gone-by in various countries by famous thimble makers. Before the invention of the sewing machine at the end of the 19th century, a thimble was a necessary household tool to assist the needlewomen in the home to sew endless seams in her sheets, tea cloths and all manner of household linen. The eight thimbles are all marked with various silver marks (see photos: 800 and 925 = Germany or Portugal, Z1 = Netherlands import mark (filigree thimble from Israel, ca. 1985), 84 = Russia with steel top ca. 1880 and the daisy thimble with agate top has full English hallmarks dating it to 1919. Two thimbles from Portugal date around 1980-1985, one with an angel design, the other a bird. Very popular with collectors are thimbles with cherub designs. One thimble from Germany has an enamel design (enamel undamaged) with a cherub in gold playing a flute (ca. 1960) and another old thimble, also from Germany, has an angel with wings surrounded by stars (ca. 1900). All thimbles are in excellent, undamaged condition. These thimbles will enhance any thimble collection, adding at the same time a touch of history. Careful packaging will ensure a safe delivery.
