Jan Sierhuis, Het Huwelijk, an oil painting in Expressionism from 1967, original edition, hand-signed, in good condition, measuring 132 x 122 cm with frame, sold by Galerie and originating from the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
This is an exclusive work from an early period of Jan Sierhuis (1928-2023), in which two intertwined figures are depicted in an expressive manner.
Dimensions: 130 x 120 cm
Dimensions with frame: 132 x 122 cm
After the war, Jan Sierhuis developed into an expressionist painter, influenced by, among others, Van Gogh, Matisse, and Picasso. Together with Appel, Corneille, and Lucebert, he found himself at the heart of the post-war developments in art.
In 1945, Sierhuis was admitted to the evening course at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, which he left after a conflict. In 1947, he was involved with the group of the Experimentelen, and in 1948 with the CoBrA group, although he was too young to become an official member. Later, in 1962, he was a co-founder of the Amsterdam artists' group Groep Scorpio.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Sierhuis mainly worked abstractly. Later, he returned to the human figure and shifted his focus to figurative themes such as dancing figures, portraits, and landscapes. He spent many summers in Spain, where his passion for flamenco had a significant influence on his work. This dance embodies everything that characterizes his painting: color, emotion, movement, and rhythm.
Sierhuis has always followed his own path. Freedom and expressivity form the common thread in his work.
Shipping of this work is possible. The shipping costs will then be calculated after your purchase and depend on your place of residence. The work can be viewed in our gallery. Furthermore, Art Dumay has a custom framing workshop (this year their 85th anniversary) and a restoration studio. So if you would like to make use of these services, we would of course be happy to hear from you.
