Jörg Immendorff (1945–2007)
Jörg Immendorff was one of the most important German artists of the post-war period. As a student of Joseph Beuys at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, he developed a politically engaged and visually powerful artistic language. His works combine social critique, historical themes, and personal symbolism. He became particularly well known through his series of works 'Café Deutschland', in which he addressed the German division and the artist as a witness of his time. Immendorff worked with bold colors, surreal scenes, and recurring motifs such as the monkey, which functions as an alter ego. In addition to his artistic activity, he was also a professor, most recently at the Düsseldorf Art Academy. His work remains an impressive testament to the power of art as a political and human form of expression.
