This work is titled Cecilia in homage to the title of a song by the great Brazilian singer-songwriter Chico Buarque, part of whose lyrics are written on the back of the painting: 'Te olho, te guardo, te sigo, te vejo dormir,' meaning 'I see you, I protect you, I accompany you, I see you sleep'.
It belongs to a series of female nudes that he created as a tribute to all the songs by a female singer-songwriter.
Sandra Chinelate, born in Juiz de Fora (Brazil), works on physical and existential inquiry conducted through the tools of figurative painting. A graduate in literature and a self-taught artist from a young age, she moved to Italy and, influenced by her multiple sociolinguistic perspective, conducts her artistic research with the aim of fostering encounters among different social subjects, where various ages, skin colors, passions, and human doubts are considered from a strong desire of the artist to highlight their facets, safeguarding her characters from any prejudice. Since 2006, she has exhibited in solo and group shows. She works with oil and mixed media on canvas and panel.
