Charatan’s Make – Shape 58 – Lane Era (1965–1976)

Brand: Charatan’s Make
Line: London, England
Shape: 58 – Lovat Long Shank
Production: Lane Era (period of production excellence: 1965–1976)
Origin: London, England
Material: seasoned heather root (Erica arborea)
Construction technique: Pipe completely handmade with traditional English freehand turning

Outer diameter: 33 mm
Weight: 20 grams
Draw: smooth, typical of the Charatan Lane Era
The extraordinary lightness (20 g) is a highly prized feature, synonymous with meticulous selection of the burl wood and a very balanced structure.
3. Finishing and Machining
Exterior finish: deeply sandblasted with a coarse grain, featuring pronounced reliefs and black/maroon color contrasts.
Coloration: Deep black with red mahogany veining (typical of the Lane Era).
Style: Rusticated “deep blast”, natural wood irregularities enhanced.
