Silvio Formichetti is an Italian painter, among the leading exponents of Italian contemporary informal painting. He begins his artistic career with portraits of female nudes and Abruzzo landscapes, then evolves, from the 1990s, toward gestural abstraction and Informalism. Fundamental in his development is the influence of American Action Painting (in particular Jackson Pollock) and figures such as Afro Basaldella, Emilio Vedova, Gianni Dova and Hans Hartung. Formichetti is known for the energetic use of color, the intense painting gesture, and a visual language that expresses deep and dynamic moods.
