Malick Sidibé (1936-2016) - The Inseparables - 1970
Silver gelatin print on baryta paper - Signed and titled by Malick Sidibé in 2010. One-of-a-kind print.
Born in 1936 in Soloba, Mali. Died in Bamako in April 2016. Malick Sidibé's first known work was a photo reportage, taken during celebrations organized by young people passionate about music and freedom as the country prepared for independence.
In 1962, he opened the “Malick Studio” in Bamako. Studio portraits constituted the core of his work. People came from all over to be photographed through Bamako’s eye. He made a name for himself at the first Rencontres de la Photographie à Bamako, then he exhibited at the Fondation Cartier in Paris and in the world's great galleries and museums. He received the Hasselblad Prize in 2003, then the Golden Lion in 2007.
