Description from the seller
This lithograph in the unmistakable style of Henri Matisse, marked “E8 H Matisse 41”, depicts a reclining female figure in a harmonious interweaving of stylized leaves and flowers, with fluid and minimalist lines that evoke Fauve vitality. Dated 1941 and part of the “Themes and Variations” series, the work is mounted on fine gray cardboard produced by Buchbinderei Fuchs, a renowned Austrian artisanal workshop specialized since the 1980s in high-quality bookbinding and artistic mounts. The sheet measures 44 x 62 cm, while the gilded wooden frame brings the overall dimensions to 87 x 67 cm, ideal for an elegant display.
The back features the original label “Fuchsh Karton” from Buchbinderei Fuchs of Saalfelden, founded in 1989 by Johann Fuchs and known for handmade boards used in graphic works and professional frames, ensuring long-lasting preservation.
They show slight signs of moisture or water stains on the white mat, visible as irregular halos near the gold frame, without affecting the lithography sheet itself. The drawing “E8 H Matisse 41” remains impeccable, with intact lines and stable paper. These marks, superficial and localized, do not compromise the overall structure nor the visibility of the work.
