Description from the seller
Soup tureen with lid in silvered brass – Europe, late 19th / early 20th century (circa 1880–1910)
Description
Serving tureen (or legumier) with lid, European-made, produced between the late 19th and early 20th century (circa 1880–1910).
The object is made of brass with bath silvering (silver-plated). The decoration features floral motifs and incised scrolls, with a beaded edge, elements typical of late-19th-century decorative production.
The lid is original and features a decorative floral-pattern top knob, which also serves as a rotary locking mechanism (bayonet-type): by turning the handle, the lid is locked or unlocked, ensuring a stable and functional closure.
The silver plating is heavily worn, especially on the inside and the top of the lid, leaving the underlying brass visible. This wear is consistent with the age of the object and with prolonged use over time. It is not solid silver.
The structure is intact, with no significant deformations; the object preserves an authentic period patina.
