Description from the seller
Lithography, Serigraphy - Hand-signed - 39/115
From the series 'Tomilleros', this beautiful color lithograph, numbered 39/115, dated 1989, signed in pencil.
Some people in the art world know him as Bonifacio Alfonso, coming to believe that Alfonso is his surname, but in reality it is his middle name. He signed his paintings simply as Bonifacio.
Born in San Sebastián (Donostia), he was one of the current Basque masters most recognized, although he did not fit into the local tradition due to his informalist style, halfway between surrealism and abstract expressionism. Related to the Cuenca abstract school, his art reveals influences from foreign figures such as Roberto Matta, Willem de Kooning, Pierre Alechinsky, and the Cobra group. Praised by Jorge Oteiza, Bonifacio exhibited in several European countries and received various awards, such as the National Prize for Engraving (1993) and the Arts Prize of the Community of Madrid (2005).
