Entitled “Arquitectura entre colinas”, this oil on canvas landscape by Escuela española (XX) from España dates to 1960–1970, in a post-impressionist style, original edition, measuring 55 by 67 cm and sold with frame by Galería.
Description from the seller
Spanish school, twentieth century
Landscape with hills and a monumental building.
Oil on canvas
A landscape with a modern conception that depicts a rural setting articulated on hills and terraces, with a monumental building—perhaps a religious or historic complex—dominating the horizon. The composition is structured through successive planes that organize the space in a rhythmic way, guiding the eye from the foreground to the background.
The work is characterized by thick, impastoed and constructive brushwork, applied in short, directional strokes, which gives the overall composition a pronounced visual dynamism. Color takes on a leading role, with a palette rich in greens, blues, and ochres, used with expressive freedom beyond a strictly naturalistic approach.
The pictorial language recalls Post-Impressionism, with clear Expressionist accents, noticeable both in the formal synthesis of the landscape and in the chromatic intensity. The space appears deliberately simplified, reinforcing the painterly surface and the modern character of the work.
For its treatment of color, matter, and the compositional structure, the painting is framed within the Spanish school of the 20th century, in the context of the renewal of landscape and the assimilation of Post-Impressionist languages in modern painting.
