This is an elegant piece from Yamanaka lacquerware, a renowned traditional craft of Kaga City in Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. With a history of approximately 450 years, Yamanaka lacquerware is known as “Kiji no Yamanaka” (Yamanaka for its wooden bases) and is celebrated nationwide for its outstanding lathe-turning techniques. Together with Wajima-nuri and Kanazawa lacquerware, it forms one of the three major lacquerware-producing regions of Ishikawa Prefecture.
Embodying the enduring beauty of Japanese tradition, this item is a document holder delicately adorned with the dignified “Maizuru” (dancing crane) motif using exquisite gold and silver foil craftsmanship.
