Ancient decorative sculpture in cast iron, portraying a “Jack Tar,” an emblematic figure associated with British sailors of the 18th and 19th centuries. The term “Jack Tar” was popularly used to designate the men of the merchant navy and the Royal Navy, central figures in the United Kingdom's maritime expansion and trade.
